Stephen Adly Guirgis’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play makes its Chicago premiere.
Stephen Adly Guirgis' 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning play Between Riverside and Crazy is now in performances at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre. Directed by ensemble member Yasen Peyankov, performances run through August 21 in the Downstairs Theatre with an official press opening on July 10.
Described as a "rowdy dark comedy," the story follows ex-cop "Pops" Washington and his ex-con son Junior, who are barely holding on to one of the last great rent-stabilized apartments in Manhattan. Pops has his hands (not to mention his apartment) full as he navigates a steady stream of sketchy houseguests and sweats out the impending verdict on his law suit against the police department.
The cast features Eamonn Walker as Pops and ensemble member James Vincent Meredith as Junior, with ensemble member Tim Hopper as Lieutenant Caro, Audrey Francis as Detective O'Connor, Victor Almanzar as Oswaldo, Elena Flores as Lulu, and Lily Mojekwu as Church Lady.
