Fiddler on the Roof Will Return to Broadway in 2015

A Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Tony winner Bartlett Sher, will hit the Great White Way in the fall of 2015, producers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel have announced. Danny Burstein, who starred in Sher's revivals of South Pacific and Golden Boy and received Tony nods for his performances, has taken part in informal discussions regarding the leading role of Tevye, The New York Times reports. No official casting offers have been made.
According to the Times, the revival will feature choreography by Israeli-born artist Hofesh Shechter, based on the original Jerome Robbins material. A theater and additional information will be released in the coming months.
Based on the stories of Sholom Alecheim, Fiddler on the Roof features a book by Joseph Stein and a score by Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick. It tells the universal tale of Tevye the milkman, who tries to hold on to "tradition" as the world around him and his family in the little village of Anatevka changes.
The original 1964 Broadway production won eight Tony Awards including best musical, book, and score. It was last seen on Broadway in 2004, starring Alfred Molina and Randy Graff as Tevye and Golde, with Harvey Fierstein, Andrea Martin, and Rosie O'Donnell eventually taking over the roles.
