Edward Hardwicke, Gwen Taylor, Timothy West, Susannah York Cast in Ronald Harwood’s Quartet

Edward Hardwicke, Gwen Taylor, Timothy West, and Susannah York are set to star in a revival of Ronald Harwood’s 1999 play Quartet, which will embark on a regional tour from Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guilford, to run June 16-26. Joe Harmston will direct the production.

Subsequent tour stops include the Cambridge Arts Theatre (June 28 – July3), Theatre Royal Brighton (July 5-10), Richmond Theatre (July 12-17), Theatre Royal Nottingham (July 19-24), Milton Keynes Theatre (July 19-24), Theatre Royal Norwich (August 9-14), Oxford Playhouse (August 16-21) and Malvern Festival Theatre (August 23-28).

Harwood’s play is set in a home for retired musicians and focuses on three old friends, once the brightest stars of the opera world, whose tranquility is about to be shattered by a surprise new arrival.

Hardwicke is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Dr. Watson opposite Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes on television. Taylor recently starred in Prick Up Your Ears in the West End and has appeared on such television series as Heartbeat, Barbara, and A Bit af A Do. West’s stage credits include The Winslow Boy and The Old Country. Among York’s many film credits are Gold, Superman, and A Man For All Seasons and on stage, she’s appeared in such works as The Loves of Shakespeare’s Women, Agnes of God, The Women, and The Apple Cart.
