Donna Lynne Champlin, Taylor Iman Jones, and More to Star in The King's Critique

Art Lab Productions and Jordan Fisher Theatrics, with executive producer Lisa Dozier Shacket, will present the world premiere of the original new musical comedy The King’s Critique. Performances start November 3 ahead of an official opening night on November 12 at the Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre at the Pershing Square Signature Center.

The King’s Critique features music and lyrics by Nat Zegree and book and lyrics by Eric Holmes. Catie Davis directs the production.

The cast includes Taylor Iman Jones, Justin Collette, Donna Lynne Champlin, Matthew Patrick Quinn, Gabi Carrubba, Gilbert L. Bailey II, Bridget Beirne, Nick Cearley, Christian Fary, Timothy Matthew Flores, Amy Jo Jackson, Geena Quintos, and Justin Sudderth. Understudies are Kyrie Courter and Ryan Everett Wood.

The creative team includes choreographer Nancy Renee Braun, scenic designer Paul Tate dePoo III, costume designer Emily Rebholz, lighting designer Cory Pattak, sound designer Jessica Paz, movement director Lorenzo Pisoni, orchestrators Nat Zegree and Ian Chan, and music director Nat Zegree.

In The King’s Critique, King Benjamin decrees that women are strictly forbidden from performing onstage. Josephine is determined to change that, and she hatches an elaborate plan with f*ckboy tenor Sebastian. A 2025 concept album of five songs from the musical is available on streaming platforms via Joy Machine Records.
