Butler will take on the role of author Truman Capote in the world-premiere production.
The American Repertory Theater has announced that Dan Butler will be replacing Leslie Jordan as Truman Capote in the cast of Rob Roth's new play WARHOLCAPOTE. Jordan has withdrawn from the production due to unforeseen personal circumstances. Butler joins Tony winner Stephen Spinella, who, as previously announced, will perform the role of Andy Warhol.
Butler previously appeared at A.R.T. as George Wallace in All the Way. He has performed on Broadway in Twentieth Century, Biloxi Blues, and The Hothouse, and off-Broadway in The Insurgents, The Weir, Olive and the Bitter Herbs, Irish Curse, Beast, Old Money, The Only Thing Worse You Could Have Told Me… (Outer Critics Circle, Drama Desk nominations), The Lisbon Traviata, Widow Claire, Much Ado About Nothing, and Emerald City. He is most widely recognized for his role as Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe on the TV series Frasier.
Inspired by recorded conversations between the artists Truman Capote and Andy Warhol, WARHOLCAPOTE follows the two artists as they attempt to create a Broadway play together. Over the course of the next several months, they would sit down to record a series of intimate, wide-ranging conversations. The play never came to be, and the hours and hours of tape were lost to the ages.
Tony winner Michael Mayer directs the production, which runs September 10-October 13 at the Loeb Drama Center.
