Cush Jumbo and Janet McTeer to Star in Shakespeare in the Park's Taming of the Shrew
Olivier Award nominee Cush Jumbo and Tony Award winner Janet McTeer will star as Katherina and Petruchio in the Public Theater's upcoming all-female free Shakespeare in the Park production of The Taming of the Shrew.
Phyllida Lloyd will direct the production, the latest in her series of all-female Shakespeare productions, a list that also includes Julius Caesar and Henry IV. Lloyd and McTeer previously collaborated on an all-female Shrew in 2003 at Shakespeare's Globe in London. The work will run May 24-June 26 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.
Also on tap for the 2016 Shakespeare in the Park season is Troilus and Cressida, directed by Daniel Sullivan. Running from July 19-August 14, the work is set in the seventh year of the Trojan War and follows Troilus, a young prince who pines for the affections of Cressida.
As previously announced, the season will also include the Public Works musical adaptation of Twelfth Night, conceived by Kwame Kwei-Armah and Shaina Taub, with music and lyrics by Taub and directed by Kwei-Armah. Performances will take place in September.
Tickets to the Public Theater’s free Shakespeare in the Park are distributed, two per person, at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park on the day of the show. The Public Theater will again offer free tickets through our Virtual Ticketing lottery on the day of the show.
