CulturalDC is set to present 24 original works for the stage as part of its fifth Source Festival, running June 8-July 1 at Source.

The line-up will feature three full-length plays including Gabriel Dean’s dark comedy about a troubled family Qualities of Starlight, directed by Sasha Brätt. In addition, Raymond Caldwell will direct Norman Allen’s The House Halfway, a play about a group of people who gather in a beautiful location to assist in the guests’ suicides. The festival’s final full-length play will be Uses of Enchanment by Gregory Moss, about a girl who uses fairy tales to deal with tragedy, directed by Amber Jackson.

The festival will also feature 18 10-Minute Plays and three Artistic Blind Dates. The 10-Minute plays feature new work from Washington playwrights Norman Allen, Christin Siems, Billy Finn, James Hesla, and Cynthia Wilcox as well as playwrights from across the U.S. The festival’s Artistic Blind Dates unite nine artists of varying disciplines to create three new interdisciplinary works, to be presented in the intimate Source Rehearsal Room where audiences can get an up-close look at the creative process.

Finally, the festival will inaugurate a mentorship program pairing leading Washington theater artists with early and mid-career directors. The Washington theater artists will include Helen Hayes Award winning playwright Jennifer Nelson, National New Play Network Executive Director Jason Loewith, and 2012 Larry Neal Writer’s Award Winner Randy Baker. They will provide mentorship to early and mid-career directors such as Helen Hayes Award winning actor Rick Hammerly and Jennifer Harris.
