New York City Opera has announced casting for the pieces that will be presented as part of its VOX Contemporary American Opera Lab, which will run, as previously announced, April 30 – May 1, at the Skirball Center for the Performing Arts. Now in its eleventh year, this two-day event showcases new American operas from both emerging and established composers and librettists in readings that are free and open to the public.
The VOX lineup includes Darius DeHaas and Chuck Cooper, who will perform in Scott Davenport Richards’ A Star Across the Ocean, alongside Katherine Jolly, Rebecca Ringle, Joaquin Delmar, and Sidney Outlaw.
David T. Little and Royce Vavrek’s Dog Days, will feature Lauren Worsham, Lisa Vroman, and Ariana Chris.
John Rodger, Michelle Areyzaga, Gabriela Garcia, and Ross Benoliel will perform in Anthony Davis’ A Revolution of Forms, which he has co-composed with Dafnis Prieto and which has a libretto by Alma Guillermprieto and Charles Koppelman.
Soprano Hila Plitmann will be part of the companies for two of the pieces presented in Vox: Du Yun’s Zolle and Paola Prestini’s Oceanic Verses.
Other performers in the festival include Brian Anderson, Daniel Bubeck, Christopher Burchett, Hai-Ting Chinn, Helga Davis, David T. Little, Kerri Marcinko, Nina Yoshida Nelsen, Amanda Pabyan, and Krysty Swann, and Helga Davis.
