Dream Casting

Christopher Guest's Waiting for Guffman! The Musical; or, Red, White, and Blaine

We dreamed up a ”Waiting for Guffman” musical starring Andrew Rannells. You’re welcome.

Broadway really likes turning movies into musicals. Some people love it. Some people hate it. We're in it for the dream-casting opportunities. So instead of waiting for the next Notebook, or Devil Wears Prada, or Almost Famous, or Mystic Pizza (seriously, there are a million of them), we picked one of our favorite titles and dreamed up not just a cast list, but a fully conceptualized, guaranteed blockbuster musical.

Broadway producers — feel free to thank us at the Tony Awards.

Plot Summary
Small town Blaine, Missouri, is getting ready for its sesquicentennial celebration, and the town's favorite auteur, Corky St. Clair, has cooked up a brand-new musical to headline the festivities. Gather 'round the campfire for Red, White, and Blaine, a story of (mid)westward discovery, alien invasion, and the biggest stool boom America has ever seen. The Blaine Community Players smell a hit. But could it even make it to Broadway? That all depends on one man…
