Olivier Award winner Chiwetel Ejiofor will star in a film adaptation of Solomon Northup’s 1853 autobiography, Twelve Years a Slave, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Featuring a screenplay by Steve McQueen and John Ridley, the movie centers on a free black man who becomes enslaved. McQueen will direct the project, which is being produced by Brad Pitt.
Ejiofor won the Olivier for playing the title role in Othello, with other stage credits including Blue/Orange, Romeo and Juliet, The Vortex and The Seagull. His film credits include Redbelt, Kinky Boots, and Salt. He also starred in the British TV series The Shadow Line.
