Chicago Celebrates 19th Anniversary on Broadway

The production, which originated at Encores!, has been running on Broadway since 1996.

The Broadway production of Chicago celebrated a milestone occasion on November 16: It celebrated its 19th anniversary on the Great White Way.

Featuring classic tunes by John Kander and Fred Ebb, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines. The current revival, directed by Walter Bobbie, originated at New York City Center Encores! and moved to Broadway in 1996.

The Broadway cast is currently led by Dylis Croman as Roxy Hart and Amra Faye Wright as Velma Kelly. They appear alongside Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart, Carol Woods as Matron "Mama" Morton, and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine.
