Maxwell stars in Howard Barker’s ”Scenes From an Execution”.
Stage great Jan Maxwell recently revealed that she's planning to retire from theater acting, following her performance in Potomac Theatre Project's Scenes From an Execution at Atlantic Stage 2. Photos of the show, and what might be Maxwell's final role, have been released.
Maxwell is a five-time Tony Award nominee whose recent Broadway roles have included Maria in Lend Me a Tenor and Phyllis Rogers Stone in Follies. Her recent television work has included regular roles on Gossip Girl and The Divide.
PTP/NYC is an off-Broadway theater committed to creating "socially and politically acute theater" for the 21st century. Howard Barker's Scenes From an Execution deals with the complex relationship between the artist and the state. It follows Galactia (Maxwell), a 15th-century Venetian painter who is commissioned by the state of Venice to portray the naval battle of Lepanto.
