Cate Blanchett Receives Two Sydney Theatre Awards Acting Nominations

Cate Blanchett, recently seen as Blanche DuBois at BAM in Sydney Theatre Company’s production of A Streetcar Named Desire has received a 2009 Sydney Theatre Award nomination for her performance in that role, as well as for her work in Sydney Theatre Company/Sydney Festival’s production of The War of the Roses. The awards will be presented at a gala ceremony on Monday, January 18 at 6pm at the Showroom of Club Swans, Kings Cross.

Roses received the most nominations of any production, with additional nominations for Best Mainstage Production, Best Director (Benedict Andrews), Best Actress in a Leading Role (Pamela Rabe), Best Actor in a Leading Role (Ewen Leslie), Best Actor in a Supporting Role (John Gaden), Best Set Design (Robert Cousins), Best Costume Design (Alice Babidge), and Best Lighting Design (Nick Schlieper). Streetcar received a total of five nominations, including for Best Mainstage Production and actors Joel Edgerton and Tim Richards.
