The musicals will unite for the New York Cares Coat Drive.
Cast members from Broadway's Jersey Boys and The Last Ship will unite to help the 26th Annual New York Cares Coat Drive and City Harvest on Saturday, December 20, at 7:45pm with the first-ever Saturday Night Scream Christmas Carols. The event will take place on 52nd Street in front of the August Wilson Theatre and the Neil Simon Theatre.
The brainchild of Jersey Boys cast member Peter Gregus, the event is a continuation of the weekly Broadway Saturday Night Scream tradition, where the cast members from shows at the August Wilson and Neil Simon Theatres perform for one another across the streets. The December 20 evening will feature Broadway actors performing Christmas carols in the hopes that fans and audience members show up with coats and/or canned goods to donate. It is also expected that Sting, the songwriter of The Last Ship who currently appears in the musical, will take part with his fellow actors.
New York cares has already received more than 100,000 coat requests for New Yorkers in need, and donations have fallen far short of these requests. If individuals and companies can’t come out to Saturday Night Scream Christmas Carols, they can donate coats until December 31, 2014. To find a drop off location, click here.
