Carol Channing Pairs Up With Tommy Tune for Time Steppin' at the Curran Theatre

Tony Award-winning stage legend Carol Channing will perform a one-night-only engagement of Time Steppin' at the Curran Theatre in San Francisco on Saturday, November 8. An evening of tales from her storied career, Channing will be joined onstage by nine-time Tony winner Tommy Tune, who will moderate the conversation.

Tune began his friendship with Channing when he was 17 while working for Dallas Summer Musicals,where Channing was performing in Show Girl. "Carol is my theatrical and spiritual mother," said Tune, "and the last of the leading ladies from a very specific golden age of American musical theatre."

Channing is best known for her Tony-winning 1964 performance in Jerry Herman's Hello, Dolly! — a role she reprised twice on Broadway. Her stage credits include eight additional Broadway productions, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Show Girl, and The Vamp. Channing also received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for her performance in the film version of Thoroughly Modern Millie and earned a 1968 Special Tony Award and a Lifetime Achievement Tony Award in 1995.

"When I was a girl, my mother asked me to help distribute Christian Science Monitors and we went through the stage door at The Curran Theatre", Channing recalls. "I’ll never forget it because this feeling came over me so strongly. That theatre was a temple to me, a mother church – and I knew that’s where I wanted to spend the rest of my life."
