Peggy-Ann, a 1926 musical comedy with a score by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart and a book by Herbert Fields, will receive a developmental reading courtesy of UnsungMusicalsCo. at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts on May 22. The 2:30pm reading will take place in the Bruno Walter Auditorium.

Inspired by 1910's Tillie's Nightmare by Edgar Smith, Peggy-Ann played 333 performances at Broadway's long-demolished Vanderbilt Theatre. The musical follows the titular Peggy-Ann, who escapes from her boring life through dreams of herself as a wealthy woman with a yacht, a husband, and a passion for adventure.

The cast of the reading will include Broadway veterans Krystal Joy Brown (Big Fish), Claybourne Elder (Bonnie & Clyde), Rebecca Faulkenberry (Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark), Nick Gaswirth (A Christmas Story), Capathia Jenkins (Newsies), Leigh Ann Larkin (Gypsy), Lance Roberts (Act One), Nick Verina (Follies), Kristen Beth Williams (Nice Work If You Can Get It), Whitney Brandt, and Matthew Patrick Quinn. The reading will feature musical direction and arrangements by Fran Minarik.

Free admission to Peggy-Ann is first-come, first-served. The reading will include a post-show discussion with Doug Reside of the New York Public Library, Bruce Pomahac of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, and Ben West of UnsungMusicalsCo.
