A musical adaptation of Cameron Crowe's acclaimed 2000 film Almost Famous is confirmed to be in the works, according to producers Joey Parnes, Sue Wagner, John Johnson, and Lia Vollack on behalf of Columbia Live Stage. The musical will feature a book by Crowe based on his Academy Award-winning screenplay, music by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), and lyrics by Kitt and Crowe. Tony nominee Jeremy Herrin (Noises Off) will direct.

Almost Famous is an American comedy-drama that follows a teenage journalist writing for Rolling Stone in the early 1970s as he travels with the fictitious rock band Stillwater. The semiautobiographical story is inspired by Crowe's own experiences writing for Rolling Stone as a teen.

Written and directed by Crowe, the movie starred Billy Crudup, Frances McDormand, Kate Hudson, and Patrick Fugit. It received four Academy Awards nominations, including a win for Best Original Screenplay, and was awarded the 2001 Grammy Award for its soundtrack, which features artists such as Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Elton John, and many others.
