New York Theatre Workshop has announced Blood Be Sweet, a new play by Abigail C. Onwunali, as the final production of its 2026-27 season.
Directed by Awoye Timpo, the production will begin previews April 21, 2027 and run through May 30.
The play was developed in partnership with Jamila Ponton Bragg, Cynthia Erivo, and Lena Waithe. The creative team will include composer Michael R. Dudley Jr., choreographer Adesola Osakalumi, and dramaturg Arminda Thomas.
Set in an otherworldly realm, Blood Be Sweet follows three spirits who breathe life into a young girl in an effort to protect her destiny.
