Broadway's Marisa Tomei Set for New Spider-Man Movie

The Drama Desk Award winner will take on the role of Aunt May.

Oscar and Drama Desk winner Marisa Tomei (The Realistic Joneses) has been cast as Aunt May in the upcoming Spider-Man film, according to Variety. The film is scheduled to be released on July 28, 2017.

Jon Watts will direct the movie, which is to be produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. The Impossible's Tom Holland has already been selected to take on the title role of Peter Parker. No writer has been announced so far.

On-screen, Tomei is known for films including The Ides of March, Crazy Stupid Love, and My Cousin Vinny. On Broadway, Tomei has appeared in Wait Until Dark, Salome, Top Girls, and most recently, Will Eno's The Realistic Joneses, for which she won a Drama Desk Award. Tomei is soon set to appear in a recurring role in the second season of Fox’s Empire.
