The Tony-nominated musicals will hit the road and travel across the country.
National tours have been announced for two more of this season's Best Musical Tony Award nominees, Fun Home and Something Rotten!
The Fun Home tour will kick off in the 2016-2017 season, with director Sam Gold restaging his acclaimed, in-the-round Broadway production for auditoriums with traditional proscenium stages, much like the way the show originated at the Public Theater. The Jeanine Tesori-Lisa Kron musical is inspired by the graphic novel-memoir by Alison Bechdel, which explores Bechdel's coming to terms with her sexuality, as well as the death of her closeted father.
The tour of Something Rotten!, directed and choreographed by Casey Nicholaw, will likely hit the road at the same time. Written by Wayne Kirkpatrick, Karey Kirkpatrick, and John O'Farrell, the show follows the brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom as they create the world's first musical and deal with a pesky theatrical competitor named William Shakespeare.
Announced tours of nominated 2015 productions also include An American in Paris, TThe Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, The King and I, and On the Town.
