Broadway's 1984 celebrated its opening night on Thursday, June 22, at the Hudson Theatre. The drama stars Tom Sturridge, Olivia Wilde, and Tony winner Reed Birney.
Sturridge, Wilde, and Birney portray the novel's characters Winston Smith, Julia, and O'Brien, respectively. They are joined by Wayne Duvall (Parsons), Carl Hendrick Louis (Martin), Nick Mills (Syme), Michael Potts (Charrington), and Cara Seymour (Mrs. Parsons).
Adapted and directed by Robert Icke and Duncan Macmillan, the drama comes to New York after four acclaimed runs in the United Kingdom, with Sonia Friedman and Scott Rudin producing.
1984's creative team includes Chloe Lamford (scenic and costume design), Natasha Chivers (lighting design), Tom Gibbons (sound design), and Tim Reid (video design).
