Astin, Foster, Hwang, Kennedy, Mason, et al. Added to NAMT

Additional participants have been announced for the 20th annual National Alliance for Musical Theater (NAMT) Festival of New Musicals, to run October 20-21 in New York. The event is open primarily to industry professionals.

New artists joining the festival are performers Skylar Astin, Stephen Buntrock, Michael Kadin Craig, David Driver, Hunter Foster, Lauren Kennedy, Anika Larsen, Liz Larsen, Julia Lema, Karen Mason, Eliseo Roman, Elena Shaddow, Cheryl Stern, and playwright David Henry Hwang.

Among the selections are Pamela’s First Musical, which features music by the late Cy Coleman, lyrics by David Zippel, and a book by the late Wendy Wasserstein, based on her 1996 children’s book about a young girl from the suburbs who spends an unforgettable birthday with her eccentric, sophisticated Aunt Louise attending a lavish Broadway production and meeting all the glamorous, creative people who made it possible. Zippel will direct the presentation.

Other selections include Robert Bartley and Danny Whitman’s The Cuban and the Redhead; Adam Gwon’s Ordinary Days; Adam Mathias and Brad Alexander’s See Rock City & Other Destinations; Glenn Slater and Wendy Leigh Wilf’s Beatsville, based on the Roger Corman film A Bucket of Blood about a demented artist; Douglas J. Cohen and Cheryl Davis’ Barnstormer, about a black aviatrix; Thomas Mizer and Curtis Moore’s The Legend of Stagecoach Mary, about an ex-slave in the Wild West; and Michelle Elliott and Danny Larsen’s The Yellow Wood.

Previously announced performers include Daniel Reichard, Stephen Bogardus, Kenita Miller, Norm Lewis, Tina Fabrique, Todd Buonopane, Ally Mauzey, Jenn Colella, Tony Yazbek, Kirsten Wyatt, Jared Gertner, Kate Shindle, Steve Kazee, Danielle Lee Greaves, Joshua Henry, Jill Abramovitz, and Jason Tam. Directors will include Kevin Del Aguila, Jerry Dixon, Christopher Gatelli, Robert Longbottom, B.D. Wong, and Zippel.
