Annie Potts will star in the Hallmark Channel’s movie musical The Music Teacher, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Alan Ett will compose the original songs for the project.

The movie will focus on a high school music teacher (to be played by Potts), who is on the brink of losing her school music program because of district budget cuts. In an effort to spare the program, her former students join forces to stage a musical to raise money to keep the program alive.

Potts starred as Annette in the Broadway production of God of Carnage, and her other stage credits include Aftermath, Diva, A Little Night Music, and Love Letters. She is well known for her work on the television series Designing Women, Any Day Now, and Love and War.
