Georgia Shakespeare will present the world premiere of April-Dawn Gladu and James Woodward’s new family musical The Emperor and the Nightingale, running July 14-August 3 at the Conant Performing Arts Center. The production is directed by Allen O’Reilly.
Adapted from the story by Hans Christian Andersen, The Emperor and the Nightingale tells the story of an ancient Chinese kingdom where a Nightingale’s song transforms a troubled Emperor into a wise ruler and the Nightingale into his most valued companion.
Ann Marie Gideon will play the Nightingale, with Terrance Jackson as the Emperor, Elizabeth Beesley as Po, Caleb Clark as the Choir, Anna Kimmell as Jade Bird, Seth Langer as Music Master, Claire Rigsby as Mei, and Stephen Shore as Chung.
The creative team includes Jon Nooner (scenic design), Kay Munroe (costume design), Liz Stewart (lighting design), and John Collin Priddy-Barnum (sound design).
