André De Shields and Alison Fraser will star in a developmental reading of Michael Aman’s The Unbleached American, to be presented by Working Tehater at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row, on Monday, May 9 at 7pm.
The play is based on the life of Ernest Hogan, an African-American who made a small fortune in the 1900s writing the first “coon song.”
De Shields received Tony Award nominations for Play On! and The Full Monty. He will be seen later this month at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theatre, starring in The Gospel According to James. Halston received Tony nominations for The Secret Garden and Romance Romance, and is currently appearing Off-Broadway in Classic Stage Company’s production of The School for Lies.
