Alaska and J. Harrison Ghee to Lead National Tour of Oh, Mary!

The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars champion and the Tony Award winner will both play Mary.

Alaska Thunderfuck 5000 and J. Harrison Ghee are hitting the road this fall in the first national tour of Cole Escola’s Oh, Mary!

As previously reported, the tour will kick off on September 19 at The Bushnell in Hartford, Connecticut, with further stops planned at San Diego Civic Theatre, the Smith Center in Las Vegas, and the Ahmanson Theatre in Los Angeles. Click here for a full list of tour stops.

Alaska will play the in the role of first lady Mary Todd Lincoln, while Ghee will play Mary’s husband, the President. The pair will continue through January 17, 2027 at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts in St. Paul.

Beginning January 19 at Chicago’s CIBC Theatre, Ghee will take over the role of Mary, becoming the first actor to play both roles. Ghee’s run as Mary is scheduled through May 16 at the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach.

“The opportunity to get a crack at Mary’s Husband and Mary Todd Lincoln is beyond a dream come true,” said Ghee, who won a 2023 Tony Award for Some Like It Hot. “I love getting to switch it up and show multiple sides of myself.” Ghee is currently appearing as Hermes in the Broadway production of Hadestown.

Not to be outdone in the firsts department, Alaska commented, “Since this is the national tour, I will be the first-ever Mary to don the hallowed hoop skirt in Las Vegas–an accolade which will surely make it into my obituary.” The winner of season two of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars, Alaska was recently seen in the off-Broadway production of Drag: The Musical.

Further casting will be announced at a future date.

Sam Pinkleton is the director of Oh, Mary!, which features scenic design by dots, costume design by Holly Pierson, lighting design by Cha See, sound design and original music by Daniel Kluger, sound design by Drew Levy, wig design by Leah J. Loukas, props supervision by Addison Heeren, and musical arrangements by David Dabbon.

Currently running at Broadway’s Lyceum Theatre, Oh, Mary! is the winner of two 2025 Tony Awards, including Best Direction for Pinkleton and Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Escola, who originated the role of Mary.

TheaterMania’s review calls it, “without a doubt, the funniest comedy on Broadway right now.”
