Aladdin Stars Sign Up for Another Year in Agrabah

The Broadway cast will continue their run with the Disney musical.

Broadway's Aladdin has announced that seven of its original stars have extended their contracts with the production through February 19, 2017. The performers signed on for another year with the Disney hit are Adam Jacobs (Aladdin), Tony Award nominee Jonathan Freeman (Jafar), Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart (Genie), Courtney Reed (Jasmine), Brian Gonzales (Babkak), Clifton Davis (Sultan), and Don Darryl Rivera (Iago).

Also continuing in their principal roles are Steel Burkhardt (Kassim) and James Moye (standby Jafar/Sultan). As previously announced, Aladdin recently welcomed new principal cast members Brad Weinstock as Omar and Major Attaway as the standby for Genie/Babkak/Sultan to the company.

The musical celebrates its second anniversary on Broadway this Sunday, March 20, at at the New Amsterdam Theatre. Based on the 1992 Disney animated film, the production features a score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice with popular songs including "Friend Like Me" and the Academy Award-winning "A Whole New World." The stage show also features a new book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin (The Wedding Singer).
