Actor James Mitchell Dies

Actor James Mitchell has died in Los Angeles of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, according to published reports. He was 89 years old.

Mitchell had a long and distinguised stage career, appearing in such shows as Brigadoon, for which won the Theatre World Award, as well as Carousel, Paint Your Wagon, Carnival, Mack & Mabel, The King and I, and Funny Girl.

He appeared in the film version of Oklahoma! as Dream Curly, as well as Paul in MGM’s The Band Wagon. His other film credits include The Turning Point and That’s Dancing.

In 1979, Mitchell joined the ABC daytime drama All My Children as Palmer Cortlandt, a role he continued to play until last year. He received seven Daytime Emmy Award nominations for his work.

He is survived by his partner Albert Wolsky.
