Cooper also directs the film reboot, set to premiere in 2018.
Warner Bros. has moved the release date of its A Star is Born remake to May 18, 2018 — four months earlier than its originally scheduled September 28, 2018, release. As previously announced, the film will costar Stefani Germanotta (Lady Gaga) and Tony nominee Bradley Cooper (Three Days of Rain, The Elephant Man), who also directs the film.
Cooper will play Jackson Maine, a country music star on the brink of decline who discovers a talented unknown named Ally (Germanotta). The two begin a passionate love affair, which is put under strain as Ally's budding fame begins to eclipse Jackson's.
The reboot is based on William Wellman's 1937 film, starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March. The film was remade in 1954, starring Judy Garland and James Mason, and again in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson. The new film will feature songs both written and performed by Gaga.
The cast additionally includes Sam Elliott, Bonnie Somerville, Andrew Dice Clay, Dave Chappelle, Greg Grunberg, Michael Harney, Willam Belli, Rafi Gavron, Eddie Griffin, Rebecca Field, Anthony Ramos, D.J. 'Shangela' Pierce, and Michael D. Roberts.
