PBS has announced the lineup of programs to be offered as part of its inaugural PBS Arts Fall Festival, to air on consecutive Fridays beginning October 14. On each of these evenings, the network will offer a full-length performance as well as artist and performer profiles, behind-the-scenes documentaries and mini-films about the art scenes in cities around the country.

Among the offerings in the series will be the Guthrie Theatre's production of Gilbert & Sullivan's HMS Pinafore, directed by Joe Dowling; a documentary about Tony Award-winning choreographer Bill T. Jones; Tony Award winner Tommy Tune's Steps In Time, which also features the Manhattan Rhythm Kings; and the LA Opera production of Il Postino, starring Placido Domingo.

In addition, the festival will include two dance offerings - San Francisco Ballet's The Little Mermaid and Miami City Ballet Dances Balanchine & Tharp -- and two shows about popular music: Give Me the Banjo, a documentary about bluegrass to be narrated by Steve Martin, and a documentary about women musicians ranging from Bessie Smith to Janis Joplin to Lady Gaga, Women Who Rock.
