Ari Graynor, Doug Kreeger, Peter Scanavino, Ally Sheedy, et al. Set for 2009 Summer Play Festival

Casts and directors have been announced for the 2009 Summer Play Festival, to be held at the Public Theater, July 7-August 2.

Christopher Gattelli will direct Dougal Irvine’s musical Departure Lounge, which focuses on four guys who recount the hilarious antics of their vacation as they wait for their flight home. The show will star Nick Blaemire, Doug Kreeger, Kathleen Monteleone, Alex Tonetta, and Jonathan B. Wright.

Kevin Christopher Snipes’ The Chimes, about four young pranksters drawn together by their knack for Shakespeare and ripped apart by the onset of World War II, will be directed by Adam Immerwhar and feature Elan Moss Bachrach, Richard Bekins, Brian C. Johnson, Graeme Malcolm, John O’Creagh, Andy Phelan, Peter Van Wagner, and Jeff Ward.

Ken Urban’s The Happy Sad, a contemporary comedy of sex, love, and dating in New York City, will be directed by Trip Cullman and feature Christopher Abbott, Ari Graynor, Sue Jean Kin, Maulik Pancholy, Peter Scanavino, Heidi Schreck, and Eddie Kay Thomas.

Zayd Dohrn’s Reborning, about a sculptor of baby dolls who meets a woman desperate to recreate the past, will be directed by Kip Fagan and star Ally Sheedy and Katherine Waterston; while Alena Smith’s The Sacrifices, about a family on a Caribbean cruise, will be directed by Sam Gold, and star Gabe Ebert, Mimi Lieber, Maackenzie Meehan, and John Gould Rubin.

Nicki Bloom’s Tender, about a family shattered by a random act of violence, will be directed by Daniela Topol, and star Betsy Aidem, Kerry Bishe, Michael Cullen, and Matt Dellapina; Tim J Lord’s We Declare You a Terrorist, about a playwright held hostage who is plagued by the story of his captor, will be directed by Niegel Smith and star David Bishins, Keira Keeey, and Katie Sigismund; and Rick Viede’s Whore, a thriller about a young woman whose unexpected one-night stand propels her into a high stakes relationship, will be directed by Aya Cash and star Cash, Andrew Garman, Matthew Montelongo, Sean T. Parker, and Mark Setlock.
