Andrew Dawson, Pat Metheny, Maggie Gyllenhaal, MOMIX, et al. Set for World Science Festival
As previously reported, Maggie Gyllenhaal will play the title role in Alan Alda's new play, Radiance: The Passion of Marie Curie, which will be presented as part of the festival's Opening Night Gala Celebration on Wednesday, June 1 at Alice Tully Hall. Bob Balaban will direct, and the cast also features Amy Adams, Allison Janney, Liev Schreiber, David Morse, and Bill Camp.
Another theater-related highlight is performance artist Andrew Dawson's The Articulate Hand, based on his collaboration with neurophysiologist Jonathan Cole. The piece offers a media-rich, on-stage portrayal of patients whose peculiar impairments -- physiological and neurological -- can provide stunning insights into just how humans are wired, and how adaptable that wiring may be. It will be presented at Galapagos Art Space on Friday, June 3, at 8pm.
Among the festival's additional participants are rap artist and writer Baba Brinkman; Grammy Award-winning jazz guitarist Pat Metheny; and dance company MOMIX.
