David Mamet to Direct and Write New Film Version of The Diary of Anne Frank

David Mamet will produce, write, and direct a new film version of The Diary of Anne Frank for Disney, according to Variety.

According to the paper, Mamet will use the famed diary, and the original play by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich, to tell the story of the young Jewish girl who hid with her family from the Nazis in the an attic in Amsterdam.

Mamet will be represented on Broadway this season by his new play Race, which he will also direct, as well as a revival of Oleanna, starring Bill Pullman and Julia Stiles. In addition, the Atlantic Theater Company, which Mamet co-founded, will present two Mamet one-acts, Keep Your Pantheon and School, starting next month.
