The Civilians to Perform You Better Sit Down: Tales from My Parents' Divorce in June

The Civilians will present a new version of the piece You Better Sit Down: Tales from My Parents' Divorce on June 28 at The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space. The performance will mark the beginning of a new partnership between the performance group and WNYC.

You Better Sit Down was first performed at Brooklyn's Galapagos Arts Space in November of 2009. The piece was created Anne Kauffman, Matthew Maher, Caitlin Miller, Jennifer R. Morris, Janice Paran and Robbie Sublett, who used interviews with their parents about marriage and divorce as their source material.

For the new version of the piece, people are invited to visit and share the stories about their own experiences with divorce, using the medium of their choice: text, video, photography, graphics, and/or song. The site will also offer tips on how to conduct interviews with one's parents to dig deeper into the tender memories and emotions divorce invariably entails. The submissions will then be used to create the new piece which will be performed on June 28.
