Soho Rep. and The Play Company Extend the U.S. Premiere of Debbie Tucker Green’s generations

The new work features composition, arrangement, and music direction by Bongi Duma.

Soho Repertory Theatre and The Play Company, in association with John Adrian Selzer, have extended the U.S. premiere of Debbie Tucker Green’s generations through November 9. The production, which opens on October 12, was originally set to close on October 26.

generations reunites Green with director Leah C. Gardiner, who worked together on the 2011 production of born bad. generations features a 13-person choir led by music director Bongi Duma. In the play, audiences are invited into a kitchen in a South African township where a fragrant meal is being prepared.

The cast includes Shyko Amos (An Octoroon), Mamoudou Athie, Khail Toi Bryant (The Lion King), Ntombikhona Dlamini (Sarafina!), Thuli Dumakude (The Lion King, Poppie Nongena), Jonathan Peck (The Lion in Winter), and Michael Rogers (born bad).

The choir features Elijah Caldwell, Jasmine Holloway, Michael Howard, Darell Hunt, Jonathan Kirkland, Ismael Kouyaté, John Lucas, Ritumetse Rita Motlhanka, Thakabasadi Sato, Slindile Sokutu, Tanyaradzwa A. Tawengwa, Electra Weston, and Tanya Zondo.

The creative team includes Arnulfo Maldonado (set), Matt Frey (lights), Matt Tierney (sound), Ásta Bennie Hostetter (costumes), and Greg Kozatek & George Hoffmann (props and set dressing).
