Paulo Szot Returns to South Pacific March 31; Additional Scheduled Absences Announced

Tony Award winner Paulo Szot will return to Broadway’s South Pacific, at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Wednesday, March 31. He had been away from the production while he starred in the Metropolitan Opera’s production of The Nose.

Because of additional commitments which Szot will be fulfilling in the coming months, the role of Emile de Becque will be played by William Michals during the week of April 13 as well as the June 1- July 4 period. Michals has been understudying the role since the show opened.

Bartlett Sher has directed this musical, based on James Michener’s Tales of the South Pacific, and featuring music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, and a book by Oscar Hammerstein II and Joshua Logan. The production also stars Laura Osnes as Ensign Nellie Forbush.
