Taylor Mac, The Civilians, and More Awarded New Victory Theater LabWorks Residencies
Ten new works have been selected for the children's theater's 2014-15 season.
The New Victory Theater has announced its list of New Victory LabWorks new work development residencies joining its 2014-15 season. Now in its second year, the New Victory LabWorks Artist Residency Program provides rehearsal space, support and feedback for select New York artists of all disciplines who desire to create original high-quality productions for young audiences.
This year, the New Victory will host the initial development of 10 new works from New York-based artists and companies. The roster includes Taylor Mac (Good Person of Szechwan) with The Fre, a queer love story for multigenerational audiences; The Civilians (Mr. Burns: A Post-Electric Play) with The Abominables, a new musical about the world of youth hockey; and Lila Rose Kaplan and Mike Pettry with The Pirate Princess, a new family musical commissioned by American Repertory Theater Institute that reimagines Orsino from Shakespeare's Twelfth Night as a pirate king and Viola as his first mate.
The list of residencies also includes works by CollaborationTown, Dead Puppet Society, Full Circle Souljahs, The Acrobuffos, Spellbound Theater, and Elska.
