Murray, Odeh, Staller, et al. Cast in Irish Rep’s Gaslight

Brian Murray, Laura Odeh, and David Staller head the cast of the Irish Repertory Theatre’s upcoming revival of Patrick Hamilton’s Victorian melodrama Gaslight. Charlotte Moore will direct the play, which will run May 9-July 8 and will open officially on May 17.

In Gaslight, Jack Manningham (Staller) is slowly driving his wife Bella (Odeh) insane by coldly accusing her of petty aberrations cleverly arranged by himself. A mysterious police inspector named Rough (Murray) visits and insists that Manningham is a maniacal criminal suspected of a murder committed 15 years earlier. The play was first produced at the John Golden Theatre in 1941, under the title Angel Street; the 1944 film version, titled Gaslight, starred Ingrid Bergman, Joseph Cotten, and Charles Boyer.

Murray is a three-time Tony nominee for his work in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, The Little Foxes, and The Crucible. Odeh recently appeared in The Public Theater’s production of King Lear and starred in the Irish Rep’s Mrs. Warren’s Profession. Staller’s Broadway credits include Cabaret, Evita, and Hello, Dolly! Moore is the co-founder and artistic director of Irish Rep; among her previous directorial credits are Meet Me In St. Louis, Mrs. Warren’s Profession, Finian’s Rainbow, and Endgame.

The cast of Gaslight also includes Laoisa Sexton and Patricia O’Connell. The design team is headed by James Morgan (sets), Brian Nason (lighting), and Martha Hally (costumes). For more information, visit www.irishrep.org.
