Mandy Gonzalez to Play Elphaba in Broadway’s Wicked

Mandy Gonzalez will assume the role of Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked at the Gershwin Theatre on March 23. The role is currently being played by Dee Roscioli.

Gonzalez originated the role of Nina Rosario in In the Heights off and on Broadway. Among her other Broadway appearances are Lennon, Aida, and Dance of the Vampires. She received an Obie Award for her performance in Eli’s Comin’. The actress can be heard in Disney’s Mulan 2 as the singing voice of Mei.

Wicked also stars Katie Rose Clarke (Glinda), Rondi Reed (Madame Morrible), P.J. Benjamin (The Wizard), Andy Karl (Fiyero), Alex Brightman (Boq), Jenny Fellner (Nessarose), and Timothy Britten Parker (Dr. Dillamond).

Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel of the same name, Wicked features a score by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento.
