Epic Theatre Ensemble to Present Summer Readings of New Works by Michael Brandt, Jeanna Sakata, Nilaja Sun
Epic Theatre Ensemble has announced a series of readings and theater presentations throughout May and June.
On May 20 and 21 at the 47th Street Theater, the company will present Jeanna Sakata’s Hold These Truths, a solo play about Japanese American activist Gordon Hirabayashi, starring Joel de la Fuente and directed by Lisa Rothe. The play is scheduled for a full production in October 2012.
On Tuesday, May 22, a new solo piece by Nilaja Sun, examining the effects of technology on low-income urban centers, will be presented at Pearl Studios as part of the First Look Reading series.
Throughout May and June, the free Blueprint Series will present readings of new plays developed specifically for the company. It will begin with Michael Brandt’s Flood, a drama about the fight for civil rights within the world of professional baseball. Directed by Ian Morgan, the reading will feature Ned Eisenberg, Michael Gaston, Devin Haqq, Scott Kerns, Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr., Don Lee Sparks, and James Wallert. Flood will be presented in the press room at Citi Field on Thursday, May 31, with additional presentations at TBG Theatre on June 2 and 3.
Keith Josef Adkins’ Sugar and Needles, a dark comedy about the nature of addition and how to re-integrate recovering addicts into society, will be presented June 2 and 3 at TBG Theatre under the direction of Ron Russell. The cast will include Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr., Marilyn Torres, and James Wallert.
