David Adjmi and Rajiv Joseph Receive Kesselring Fellowships

The National Arts Club, in partnership with The Exchange and Orchard Project, has awarded David Adjmi and Rajiv Joseph with 2009 Kesselring Fellowships (formerly the Kesselring Award), which support the work of extraordinary playwrights who have yet to achieve national recognition.
Playwrights Jenny Schwartz and Tarrell Alvin McCraney were also named as Kesselring Honorees. In total, Kesselring Fellows receive $7500 of direct support and $14,000 of indirect support through development, and each Honoree receives $1500 in direct support and an additional $2000 in indirect support through development.
Adjmi’s plays include Stunning, upcoming at Lincoln Center 3, as well as Marie Antoinette, Caligula, Elective Affinities, and Strange Attractors. Joseph’s plays include Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo soon to be presented at the Mark Taper Forum, as well as Animals Out of Paper, Huck & Holden, All This Intimacy, and The Leopard and the Fox. Schwartz is best known for her play God’s Ear, while McCraney is the author of Wig Out! and The Brothers Size.
All four playwrights will be included in literary and artistic events at the National Arts Club over the course of the year.
