Aaron Landsman, James Scruggs, Betty Shamieh, et al. Part of HERE’s Culturemart 2011

HERE Arts Center has announced the lineup for Culturemart 2011, to run January 7-23. The festival will feature 12 mutlidisciplinary works that contain elements of theater, dance, music, new media, puppetry, and visual arts.

Among the offerings will by James Scruggs’ Tickets to Manhood (January 12-13), an investigation of what makes a man a man. Betty Shamieh’s new play about the origins of the killing of an Arab, The Strangest (January 17-18), will also be a part of Culturemart, as will Deborah Stein and Suli Holum’s Chimera (January 19-20), which explores the medical phenomenon of one body containing two sets of DNA.

Culturemart will also include Aaron Landsman’s City Council Meeting (January 12-13), which centers on a city commissioner’s surprising final day in office; and Kamala Sankaram’s Miranda, a chamber opera, which, set in the near future, is a hybrid of murder-mystery and CourtTV reality programming.

Other artists who will have work presented during Culturemart are Lindsay Abromaitis-Smith; Joe Diebes; Ximena Garnica and Shige Moriya; Yana Landowne, Kristin Marting and Tal Yarden; Jake Margolin and Nick Vaughan; Johari Mayfield; and Laura Peterson.
