Joel and Ethan Coen's new film A Serious Man, starring Broadway veterans Michael Stuhlbarg and Richard Kind, will kick off the first Friars Club Comedy Film Festival in New York on September 24, before getting a limited U.S. release on October 2.

The film, which is set in 1967, focuses on Larry Gopnik (Stuhlbarg), a Midwestern professor who watches his life unravel when his wife prepares to leave him because his inept brother (Kind) won't move out of the house. The cast also includes Adam Arkin, Katharine Borowitz, Fyvush Finkel, Amy Landecker, Sari Lennick, and Allen Lewis Rickman.

The Coens won three Oscars for their work on No Country for Old Men, which was named Best Picture of the Year, and a Best Screenplay Oscar for Fargo.

The Festival will include screenings of both new works and classic films, along with panel discussions with actors and filmmakers, including Paul Rudd, Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, David Wain, and John Hamburg.
