Shoshana Bean and Eydie Fay’s Dear John Mayer Musical Part of Open Fist’s First Look Festival

The new musical Dear John Mayer, featuring a book by Eydie Faye with music and lyrics by Shoshana Bean, will be presented at Open Fist Theatre Company, July 20-September 3, as part of the third First Look Festival of New Plays.

In the piece, a 30-year-old newly divorced woman and aspiring singer creates a video blog in the hopes of catching the attention of her muse, John Mayer. When a heavy-hitter from the music industry stumbles upon her videos, life changes very quickly for her. Martha Demson will direct the workshop production, with choreography by Eboni Nichols. The workshop production runs July 20-September 3.

Additional workshop productions in the festival, which runs July 15-September 10, include Quake, written by D. Tucker Smith, and directed by Smith with Anjali Bhimani, and Life on This Couch, written by Laura Richardson, and directed by Benjamin Burdick.

There will also be staged and concert readings of Neither Here Nor There, by Rebecca Sue Haber, directed by Michelle Lema; Singapore, by Philip William Brock, directed by BjØrn Johnson; An Ignorant Man, by Richard Manley, directed by John Hindman; The Power and the Glory: The Tale of Phil Ochs (American), by Jesse Bernstein, directed by Martha Demson; and She’s the Best, by Jim Bontempo, directed by Andrew Dodson.
