It was announced today that Justin Peck will serve as choreographer for Steven Spielberg's film remake of West Side Story. The resident choreographer and soloist with the New York City Ballet, Peck earned a 2018 Tony Award for choreographing the Broadway revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Carousel.

As previously reported, Steven Spielberg will direct a new film adaptation of Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, and Arthur Laurents's classic musical, which was made into a 1961 film directed by Robert Wise and the show's original choreographer, Jerome Robbins. The new film will feature a screenplay by Pulitzer Prize and Tony winner Tony Kushner (Angels in America; Caroline, or Change).
