Mahershala Ali, One of Several Theater-Vet Nominees, Takes Home an Oscar
It was an otherwise quiet night for stage stars at the 2019 ceremony.
New York theater alum Mahershala Ali (Second Stage's Smart People) won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Green Book at the 2019 Oscars on Sunday, February 24. The honors were presented in a ceremony televised on ABC.
Ali was one of many nominated stage vets at the ceremony, but he was the only one to take home an Oscar.
This year, nominated stage favorites included Bradley Cooper for A Star Is Born and Willem Dafoe for At Eternity's Gate (both for Best Actor); Glenn Close for The Wife (Best Actress); Amy Adams for Vice, Emma Stone for The Favourite, and Rachel Weisz for The Favourite (all for Best Supporting Actress); and Sam Rockwell for Vice, and upcoming Burn This star Adam Driver for BlacKkKlansman (both for Best Supporting Actor).
