The Broadway Records cast album of the Tony-winning revival of The Color Purple has been named winner of the 2017 Best Musical Theater Album Grammy Award. Principal soloists Cynthia Erivo (who won a 2016 Tony Award for her performance as Celie), Jennifer Hudson (as Shug), and Danielle Brooks (as Sofia) take home the prize along with producers Stephen Bray, Van Dean, Frank Filipetti, Roy Furman, Scott Sanders, and Jhett Tolentino, and the composer-lyricist team of Bray, Brenda Russell, and Allee Willis.
