Gwen Taylor and Don Warrington will star in a UK tour of Alfred Uhry’s Driving Miss Daisy, to kick off at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford, October 8-13, 2012.

When Daisy Werthan (Taylor), a widowed, 72 year-old Jewish woman living in midcentury Atlanta, is deemed too old to drive, her son Boolie hires Hoke Coleburn (Warrington), an African American man, to serve as her chauffeur. What begins as a troubled and hostile pairing soon blossoms into a profound, life-altering friendship that transcends all the societal boundaries placed between them. Ian Porter will play the role of Boolie.

The production is based on the recent Broadway and West End revival of the play directed by David Esbjornson, designed by John Lee Beatty, with costumes by Jane Greenwood, lighting by Peter Kaczorowski, music by Mark Bennett and sound designed by Christopher Cronin.

Taylor is most recently known for playing Anne Foster in Coronation Street. Her many stage credits include The Butterfly Lion, Calendar Girls , Prick Up Your Ears , Shirley Valentine , Heritage, Clouds and Ripen Our Darkness. Her film work includes Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Richard’s Things.

Warrington is best known for playing Philip Smith in the hit TV series Rising Damp and was most currently seen on screen in Morse. His stage credits include A Statement of Regret, The Mysteries, Elmina’s Kitchen and The Merchant of Venice.

Following the Guildford engagement, the tour will continue on to Croydon Ashcroft Theatre (October 15-20), Richmond Theatre (October 22 – 27), Bath Theatre Royal (October 29-November 3), Malvern Festival Theatre (November 5 – 10), Brighton Theatre Royal (November 12 – 17), Derby Theatre (November 19 – 24), and
