The nominations for the 34th annual Carbonell Awards, which honor theatrical excellence in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties, have been announced.
The Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre has garnered the most nominations, earning 12 for David Arisco’s staging of Les Miserables and one for its staging of Bombshells. The Caldwell Theater Company in Palm Beach has received 12 nominations for its productions and the Maltz Jupiter Theatre and GableStage, each received 11 nominations.
Brad Oscar has received a nomination as Best Actor in the awards’ Musicals category for his performance in Barnum. This Maltz Jupiter production earned eight nominations in total, including one for director Gregory Greenberg. This show tied with the Caldwell production of Vices: A Love Story for the second highest number received by a single production.
Among the other nominees are Joseph Adler, who picked up two nominations for his direction of Farragut North and Speed-the-Plow, as well as performers Natalie Venetia Belcon (Vices) and Laura Turnbull (Rock ‘n’ Roll).
