Slow Burn Theatre Company of Boca Raton, Florida, will present the Florida regional premiere of Carrie: The Musical. Performances are set to run from October 16-November 2 at the West Boca Performing Arts Theatre.

Adapted from the 1974 horror novel by Stephen King, Carrie tells the story of 17-year-old Carrie White, who is terrorized by her high school classmates and her fanatically religious mother. After a prom-night prank gone awry, Carrie uses her newly discovered telekinetic powers to wreak havoc on those who have done her wrong. The musical features a book by Lawrence D. Cohen (screenwriter of the classic film), music by Academy Award winner Michael Gore (Fame, Terms of Endearment), and lyrics by Academy Award winner Dean Pitchford (Fame, Footloose).

"We are honored to have been granted the licensing for this premiere," said Matthew Korinko, executive director. Artistic director Patrick Fitzwater added, "We're thrilled to bring this unique tale to our audiences, especially with 'bullying' in the forefront of what all children are facing today."

The cast of Carrie features Anne Chamberlain in the title role of Carrie White and Shelley Keelor as her mother, Margaret White. The company also includes Jessica Sanford, Alex Zenoz, Cristina Flores, Kristian Bikic, Ann Marie Olson, Matthew Korinko, Jen Chia, Kayla Fast, Colleen Campbell, Bruno Vida, Ricardo Silva, and Michael Friedman.

Fitzwater directs and choreographs the production, along with music director Caryl G. Fantel. The creative team also includes Sean McClelland (scenic design), Rick Pena (costume design), Lance Blank (lighting design), and Danny Butler (sound design).

Slow Burn has also recently announced plans to become the resident theater company for Broward Center for Performing Arts. Productions will move from West Boca Community High School's auditorium to the 590-seat Amaturo Theater in Fort Lauderdale for its 2015-16 season, which will open next October with a production of the recent Broadway musical Big Fish.
